Today I have to pay homage to one of my favorites, Thomas Heatherwick. Some say more designer than artist but to me what truly is the difference. This particular image is his "Pavilion" or the Seed Cathedral. Each strand holds an individual seed encased in a fiber optic line. We are talking 250,000 different seed and strands!
The studio developed the idea of the UK Pavilion exploring the relationship between nature and cities. From here came Heatherwicks idea of involving Kew Garden's Millennium Seed Bank Partnership whose mission is to collect the seeds of 25% of the worlds plant species by 2020.
The studio's intention is to create an atmosphere of reverence around this formidable collection of the world’s botanical resources; a moment of personal introspection in a powerful silent space.
